Home Secretary visits JM RET in Wrexham
Home Secretary visits JM RET and Brickfield FC learners
Learners on the JM RET pre-apprentice programme in Wrexham were treated to a visit by Conservatory MP candidates Sarah Atherton, Simon Baynes and Home Secretary, Priti Patel, last week.
As part of the election campaign, Simon Baynes, the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Clwyd South, organised a visit for the Home Secretary Priti Patel to Brickfield Rangers FC on Tuesday. The Home Secretary visited Brickfield FC in Wrexham, to see the partnership work between the club and training provider JM RET, in helping to support clubs to be more sustainable and also offering career opportunities for residents in the local community.
As part of the visit, Priti Patel spent an hour speaking with staff and learners about why they were on the scheme, what progressions they had planned and what the barriers were to employment.
JM RET specialise in providing pre-apprentice (level 1) and apprentice (Level 2 and 3) opportunities in the Education and Sport sectors. JM RET work in partnership and are funded by the North Wales consortium of work based learning providers Grwp Llandrillo Menai, North Wales Training and ADT, as well as Wrexham Glyndwr University in North East Wales, for level 3 apprentices that want to go to University and train as a Teacher. Last year, of those that started a level 2 or 3 apprenticeship, 96% achieved within the time frame and either gained full time employment or went onto Higher Education after they completed.
Mr Baynes said: “The Home Secretary enjoyed her visit very much, chatting with organisers and some of the many young people who come here to train and enjoy sport. She was full of praise for the dedicated staff.”
Afterwards, the Home Secretary said: “They are doing a sterling job in Clwyd South, working hard alongside their MP candidate Simon Baynes to help the community in many different ways.”
Mr Baynes added: “The Home Secretary was very impressed by the amazing work completed by Brickfield FC and JM Recruitment Education & Training staff. The club is not just about football, it is about providing young people with opportunities and a focus. It is a real credit to the community and I would like to see more schemes like this in our region.”
When asked about the scheme Sport Coach Harry Jones, 16 said” The course is unique as its positive, fun and engaging. Everyday is always different.” Owen Bullock, 17, who is training to be a teaching assistant added “ Its enjoyable, nice and relaxed and everyone is really supportive.”
Regarding the visit by Home Secretary Priti Patel, current learner Kassia Allman, 16, who is training to be a teaching assistant stated;
“It gave us a fantastic starting point of understanding the world of politics which is extremely important to us and our long term futures.”
Sport coach pre-apprentice Erin Nightingale, 17, also added “ I found it massively interesting as we had direct contact with the Home Secretary and I found out her views on sport.”
